PACCO, the Asian Reporter, and the Asian Reporter Foundation teamed up to organize “Asia Relief Benefit Dinner”, held January 14 at Legin Restaurant in SE Portland, to raise money for the Northwest Medical Teams to benefit the victims of the tsunami and earthquake victims of South Asia.
Turnout and response to the fundraising event were better than expected despite just two weeks of preparation.
Commissioner Sam Adams of the City of Portland, PCC President Preston Pulliams, Northwest Medical Teams VP Dick Roland, and Sri Lankan Native Thissa Athukorala, were among the speakers at the event.
The benefit dinner raised approximately $3,900, with attendees expressing their desire to help further by spreading the word about Northwest Medical Teams, and about the need for continuing assistance to the tsunami victims who will be affected by this disaster for many years to come.
